About the Therapist

Courtney Muir, MA, LMFT 97006 (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) started Equilibrium in November of 2016. Courtney received her Masters Degree in Psychology (Marriage and Family Therapy emphasis) from Brandman University. She completed her practicum at the Hanbleceya Therapeutic Community where she gained experience working with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, depression, bipolar, anxiety and OCD in a residential setting. She also gained experience working with families of those suffering from mental illness.

Courtney later worked at Center for Discovery, a residential eating disorder treatment facility where she worked with all types of eating disorders. At Center for Discovery, Courtney created and facilitated a Poetry Therapy group. Courtney completed her internship at Personal Evolution Psychotherapy in Mission Valley where she gained experience working with the LGBTQI, Kink, and Poly communities and where she was a therapist in a comprehensive DBT program.

Courtney’s original training was in DBT and while she deeply values and often still uses her DBT knowledge, she has since shifted to Jon Frederickson’s variation of ISTDP. She has attended several trainings with Jon Frederickson and is currently part of a three-year Core Training group with David Rudesill, LCSW to further refine and hone her skills.

Courtney has practiced Gender Therapy for 3 years under the supervision of a WPATH-member gender therapist, and now for 4 additional years on her own. She has attended trainings with Dr. Jo Olson-Kennedy and Aiden Olson-Kennedy, LCSW on effective care for transgender youth and an advanced care for trans folks program at WPATH’s conference in Los Angeles. Courtney is a member of CAMFT, California’s professional organization for Marriage and Family therapists.
